Some places touch you immediately. Because they are more than wood, stone, and views. Because they have a soul.


Sonnalm is one such place. High up on the Schmittenhöhe, where silence and wide views meet, once stood the Kaspernalm – a simple mountain hut with over 300 years of history. It offered protection, warmth, and the feeling of having arrived.
In 1957, Irmgard and Kurt Blaickner fell in love with this spot – and transformed it into something new: Sonnalm, a house with heart, built for all who appreciate the original. With great sensitivity, a place was created that was more than just a hotel – it became a temporary home.

The historically charming mountain hotel is located at an altitude of 1,400 meters, directly at the mountain station of the Sonnenalmbahn on Schmittenhöhe – the first “real” mountain hotel in Zell am See. In the lovingly built wooden, family-run house without a television, the focus is on sociability and nature. “In the morning you don’t need an alarm clock – our wooden house lives and creaks” – the next morning, you get to be the first on the untouched slopes. In the manageable hotel, 7 double rooms and 4 quadruple rooms, each individually designed with a lot of heart, ensure a cozy atmosphere – ideal for couples, families, or groups of friends.
